The Role
We are looking for a Creative Director to help develop the brands of our rapidly growing company and product portfolio by leading the planning and execution of design and creative tasks, as well as overseeing the completion of creative deliverables on time and within budget.
The ideal Creative Director will have a natural eye for design, inspire dynamic ideas, and create designs that connect with both scientific and general audiences.
The Creative Director supports, collaborates with, and directs design professionals including external consultants, freelancers and agency partners frequently, while working directly with multi-disciplinary cross-functional team members (product managers, marketers, copywriters, etc.)
The Creative Director must be able to present design rationale and advocate for their work while remaining open to inputs and alternative perspectives.
The ability to clearly articulate your vision, in both verbal and visual means, is critical to your success in this role. Candidates for this role must demonstrate comfort and willingness to work hands-on in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead, direct and execute the production of creative assets for various purposes including but not limited to digital and print promotions, packaging, events, collateral, photography, video, content, web, industrial design
- Organize and maintain all creative assets
- Ensure brand standards are met and that they reflect consistently and positively the brand image and company ideals
- As needed, oversee the work of internal and external resources contributing to the production of creative assets
- Collaborate as needed with members of marketing, copywriting, product development, sales and the executive team
- Must be effective in accepting and challenging alternate recommendations based on a brand/creative strategy
- Oversee execution of deliverables to meet objectives for design, budget, timelines, brand standards, and KPIs
Willing to travel to offices in Paris, France and South San Francisco, CA as well as to support marketing events and activities as needed
Experience:
- Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in design, advertising, or communications with 10+ years of graphic design, communications, or advertising experience, include package and print design experience reflecting increasing levels or responsibility
- Experience in creating materials for integrated marketing campaigns across all marketing channels (digital and print) from developing the concept to overseeing production on time and on budget
- Expertise in developing and defining design strategy; refining designs from creation through development and implementation.
- Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced, start-up environment
- Experience shaping and developing brands through design and advertising
- In-depth knowledge of brand development and brand systems
- Project management experience, with a focus on creative direction
- Supervisory/management experience, with a focus on external designers and agencies
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite as well as other creative design tools
- Interpersonal and communication skills and willingness to work in a fast-paced life science company
